Isotelus by Limestone Ziggurat
While searching old hard drives and backups for something else, as it often happens, I happened upon this session of primordial Ziggurat from Autumn of 2020, apparently recorded impulsively, perhaps meant for some other project or purpose, but either way labeled as "Ziggurat" and filed away to be forgotten about.
Much like the three pieces plucked from the early archives on "Adamantinarx" and the three "Litho" takes, "Isotelus" offers yet another glimpse of what was gestating in those first two years of my modular development with regard to Limestone Ziggurat - a project I had already conceptualized and named by mid-2020, but wanted to hold back from announcing and publishing for a while, so I could consider it more carefully. I knew then that Limestone Ziggurat, whatever it would become, was going to be my "next phase" of creative working and thinking, and so as the fifth year of my travels with my modular system now begins, I felt it pertinent to share this look back.
So what has changed? What has remained the same? It's clear that this session was probably done stoned, hence my forgetting about it, and also because it resembles a fair bit of the first and third "OHMM" releases, which were themselves recorded that same month. At this early stage, influences from O))) and other sub-bass explorers are obvious, and in a strange modular music way, "Isotelus" almost feels like Ziggurat doing a doom album.
Altogether, it still thrills me to listen to it now with a nice pair of headphones, excessively loud, almost five years later, and it makes me even more excited to think about how much more distance and time Ziggurat still has yet to cross. Maximum volume, as ever, will yield maximum results.
