January's Blanket by Tony Vaughan

These songs were written between five and ten years ago, during a time of emotional upheaval, reflection, and change. I had just gone back to school in my late 30s, and the piano became my way of processing everything: feelings of longing, confusion, heartbreak, and, eventually, calm.

Each track is a little time capsule. Tiger came from a place of deep betrayal and inner storm. It’s probably the one that still floors me. Just Fools is about love that stayed silent. Miss Cho was inspired by someone navigating complicated feelings and acting on them in messy, human ways. These songs aren’t always pretty, but they’re honest. They helped me tell the truth when words fell short, and kept me grounded when the feelings got too loud.

I recently revisited and remastered the tracks, not to perfect the past, but to let it breathe. This album never really had its day, and I wanted to give it that moment before moving on to something new. I’m not the same person who wrote these songs, but I still recognize him. He knew what he had to go through. He’s a champ.
