Sight Lines Visual is proud to present 50 minutes of original music by Spencer Owen, including his brilliant soundtrack to our film ALI’S STORY.
Crafted by an indie/DIY artist with a wide stylistic range, LOGO DUBS marks Spencer’s move into a professional electronic production environment. The record’s sound is shaped by his deepening, abiding love for house, hip-hop, and electronic music. He weaves in samples from his own guitar and 8-bit recordings, embracing SLV’s MPC X studio as a new instrument while nodding to his past work. Imagine a one-man-band version of Stereolab, trained on J Dilla, Prince, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Spencer himself.
LOGO DUBS spotlights Spencer’s sharpest instincts in composition, arrangement, mixing, and performance, all delivered as library music for SLV. A lifelong Disney theme-park superfan and lover of the Main Street Electrical Parade, it’s fitting that what is perhaps Spencer’s best album yet is commercial music for a film studio.
Beyond the occasional Perrey-and-Kingsleyism or Bach association you might expect from Spencer, think: Brian Eno crafting the Windows 95 start-up chime; Yasuaki Shimizu’s MUSIC FOR COMMERCIALS; Jeffrey Townsend’s Gracie Films stinger at the end of every SIMPSONS episode; Nobukazu Takemura designing Aibo sounds; or Michael Jackson sketching demos for Sega’s SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3.
Just so, Spencer has shaped the sound of SLV.
