Awake from day-lit crag
where angles converge
Dry winter waves white flag,
compels to emerge

Smooth belly slides on stone
leaves burrow behind
Hunger pulls toward unknown
as eyes unblind

Clawprint from scaly hand;

Dark tongue flick tastes the air
with blood growing warm
Gila smells rabbit hair -
a nest to the North
