New Spring by Taku Sugimoto / Sean Colum / Fumi Endo / Kanon Aonami

Pianist Fumi Endo, alto saxophone player Kanon Aonami and Tokyo-based British guitarist Sean Colum have performed together several times in duo and trio formats at Ftarri, Tokyo. The year 2023 saw the release of "Kanon Aonami Composed Works" (meenna-954), an album consisting of duo and trio performances by these three musicians. On January 3, 2024, Taku Sugimoto, a guitarist/composer renowned on the international improvised/experimental music scene, joined the three in a concert held at Ftarri, Tokyo. This album is made up of two performances from that concert.

Track 1 is an improvised duo performance by Sugimoto (mandolin) and Colum (acoustic guitar). Track 2 is an improvised quartet by Sugimoto (acoustic guitar), Colum (acoustic guitar), Endo (piano) and Aonami (alto saxophone). Both are outstanding performances that bring out each musician's distinctive character to the fullest.

ピアニストの遠藤ふみ、アルト・サックス奏者の蒼波花音、東京在住英国人ギタリストの Sean Colum は、東京 Ftarri でデュオやトリオで何度か共演経験があり、2023年にはこの3人のデュオ / トリオ演奏を収めたアルバム『Kanon Aonami Composed Works』(meenna-954) がリリースされている。この3人に、ギター奏者 / 作曲家として世界の即興 / 実験音楽シーンで高い知名度を誇る杉本拓が加わり、2024年1月3日に東京 Ftarri でコンサートがおこなわれた。本アルバムは、この時の演奏2曲を収録している。

1曲目は、杉本拓 (マンドリン) と Sean Colum (アコースティック・ギター) のデュオ即興演奏。2曲目は、杉本拓 (アコースティック・ギター)、Sean Colum (アコースティック・ギター)、遠藤ふみ (ピアノ)、蒼波花音 (アルト・サックス) のカルテット即興演奏。どちらも、各奏者の個性が遺憾無く発揮されて生まれた好演奏。
