Perkins 4108 by Madra Caorach
Well, here we are again. I promised I wouldn’t take as long with this project as I did with the last one and it only took me 4 months. That’s a lot better than the 6 years the last thing took to make!
You could say the first record is a panorama of the last 6 years of my life, whereas the writing/arranging and recording process for this one took me less then 12 months, making this more of a photograph of the past year of my life, although it’s equally as distorted as the former all the same. This year things are a little bit more tied together thanks to Saro, my beautiful little boat.
A lot has changed in the past year and I feel like Saro is the face of that change. She’s the biggest thing that’s happened in my life in the past year and even though I only wrote one piece for her (sort of two), the whole EP feels like it’s about her. The running order of the EP kind of accompanies the physical and spiritual journey I’ve been on ever since she entered my life.
I didn’t even realise this until I started having talks about artwork with my little sister Fodhla who took the photo of the ducks and made the cyanotype print that’s on the cover art. She’d been making a lot of these prints at home and I couldn’t help but picture one of these prints as accompanying artwork. It slowly started to hit me that the blue and white was reminding me of the beautiful blue decking and white panelling that Saro has.
I don’t have much to say about the music other than it happened, albeit a lot more naturally than my last effort. I hope it makes you feel something, thanks for reading/looking/listening.
