"City Dragon is a solo project from French musician Max Kaario. I got a kick out of the album description as "a soundtrack for the spoiled yellow fruit." There are no individual track titles though there are mostly obvious transitions between "songs." Right out the chute we're in some seriously wacky territory. A tortured rhythmic pulse is accompanied by swami call-to-prayer horn, free-jazz / drone saxophone, and spectral, wailing vocals that sound like the earliest Residents songs. One tune sounds like Wild Man Fischer backed by an avant-garde oompah band. Another track sounds like psychedelic children's hip-hop and tribal ethnic chant choir. Yet another sounds like a Beat poet narrative spoken to a marching band bass drum. And the fun continues. If you like the early Residents and anything experimentally weird, this is cool stuff."
