Extract by Echoes of the Moon

Extract is the 6th album from Echoes of the Moon. I began recording in April of 2025 and finished in January of 2026. While the style shouldn't be unfamiliar to those who have been fans of my work, especially my early releases, you may find that this is more metal focused and more direct than my previous work.

I dialed back the more introspective/quiet moments in favor of longer stretches of black metal and death metal riffing. There are still some moments of quiet and introspection but I would say overall this is a departure from the post rock influence present on previous efforts. On the last album, Absence, the music was a monolithic mountain of sound, with at least 4-6 guitar tracks at all times and another layer or 2 of keys/synths. I wanted to challenge myself more by simplifying the sound to just 2 guitars, bass, drums, and vocals. I think the dueling guitars with their intertwining melodies still provide a nice atmosphere. In some ways, it is even more dizzying.

I am really proud of this one both musically and lyrically. The lyrics come from a place of dread/frustration at the current disorder in the world. While that isn't a particularly unique topic, it's something I hadn't tackled fully lyrically before. Whether it's the increasing threat of artificial music ruining human creativity to the difficulty of getting by in a world uninterested in anything other than exploitation, these words represent everything I've been feeling lately and I know I'm not alone in that. A small silver lining in all of this is that it's sparked something in me that has me eager to make more music again. I've been slow to do so in the past and I'm hoping that this will start a new rhythm for me to create more. I hope others continue to create more independent art as well.
