Paranoia by Al Lover

A healthy dose of skepticism is useful, be it at institutions who’s track records aren’t perfect, at the outsider who’s motives are unclear, or even at one’s own intuitions, flawed by a myriad of uncontrollable circumstances. We can be skeptical of the reality that we interact with every day and even at the nature of truth. This skepticism however, gone unchecked, can result in a downward spiral towards insecurity, helplessness and ultimately, madness.

The conspiracy theorist, the fool, the dogmatic fundamentalist, the extremist and the psychotic all have something in common. Correlational patterns. Patterns that seem to explain something greater then can be observed by the rest of the foolish sheep who have not seen the light. Patterns that seemingly weave together a grand narrative, helping to explain the chaos that faces us on a day to day basis. Patterns that can ultimately overlap like a Black Widow’s web, ensnaring the vision holder, dooming them to paralysis or worse, reactionary measures, perhaps bringing harm to themselves or others.

This project, 'Paranoia' is meant to be a meditation on what can cause such a shift in someone, not just in the other, but in one's self. What depths of madness are we all capable of? Individually and collectively. What switch could be flipped to where we end up in the dark cave of insanity? How do we prevent this? These are good questions to ask, and my hope is that deep thought on such matters can help us see the potential we all hold for fractionation, and ultimately, the potential that we all have for reconciliation.
