Liminal Abstractions by Alex Ringess

This album is an experiment.
When I finished No Way Out, I needed to explore deeper these vibes, but on sound design mostly. I also have the needed to explore a bit Boards Of Canada. And finally, I wanted to return to my "Abstractions" serie and opening a new chapter.
This album is minimal. I didn't used a lot of instruments. The tracks the richer have like 8 different instruments.
The majority of them have only 4 or 5. So it is minimal in that way. From the melodic and harmonic side of the composition too. Only few phrases. No intricated sequences and so.
This album is liminal in the sense that I tried to make musics that put the listener in a mood kinda familiar, kinda not. Just at the threshold.
This album is strongly inspired by the works of Boards Of Canada, but I did my best to not copycat them (I hope so ^^).
This album is an uncommon one on my catalog because most of the tracks have beat, drums, and so.
And finally this album try to explore something new for me from the sound design perspective. I don't have the gears to make proper tape recordings and play with it but I used vst tape effects and processed samples (external sources and from myself) massively to approached the closest to real tape recorders. I wanted it more "analog", organic, warm, like memories from the past or the futur.

As for the whole "Abstractions" serie, this album is made of "Tableaux", plus some additions.

As for all my previous albums, this one isn't mastered loud on purpose. I don't want to hurt your ears. If you love music and if you want to be able to enjoy it for a life time, you have to preserve your ears so don't push up the volume too high. By mastering my albums without the usual -14db lufs, I let you the choice of listening it as it was mastered or pushing up the volume of your sound system. It's up to you but don't forget to preserve your ears, they are fragile.
